PRESERVATION AND MAINTENANCE SKILLS

Maintaining Historic Structures -- with Measure Twice Renewal
Focuses on the skills needed to maintain wooden frame structures, including safety practices. Participants will learn how to clean gutters, ladder safety, simple window repair, painting practices, and other skills as they pertain to your structure. After a briefing, participants will be learning about your structures and working on developing skills. No experience required. [4 hours] Go to page

PHOTOGRAPHY

Getting the Photos You Want with the Camera You Have
An informal mini-workshop for non photographers. Participants bring their cameras and questions about photography. After a short introduction and conversation, we will take a walk and take photographs for up to an hour. Then we'll go back and discuss. Photography Your Way
This three-to six-session workshop series provides an introduction to all aspects of digital photography. Participants learn about their cameras, digital image files, scanning and printing,  editing and manipulating digital photographs, using them on social media and to print albums, and critiquing their own and others' photographs. Rates vary by length of series and size of class. Contact me to inquire and/or schedule.

Photography and History: Working with Images
This workshop is suitable for historical groups as well as people interested in preserving, digitizing and storing, and using historical family or collected photographs. The two sessions that focus on "using" photographs are on a choice of topics, for instance on working with digital images, exhibiting photographs, or creating books or calendars with historical photographs. Beyond the Album: Making Photo Books That Tell a Story
What are we going to do with all those pictures? How can we get kids to take an interest in family history?  Creating and publishing researched family photo books and projects. For those who have done their genealogical homework and those who have simply inherited their grand/parents photo albums. Create a photo book that will engage younger generations using your family resources. Optional topics: publishing and/or printing. No experience required. Bring in your audiences to have some fun. History in Your Story: (Creative) Non-Fiction Writing Group
Work on your project, develop a new project, simply read and write. We will read and discuss short pieces that use history to tell a story or make a point. We discuss the use of history in other contexts, such as writing a blog post with an argument or a memoir.  We will pay attention to narrative, argument, and voice. Participants will share, read, and critique each other's work. No experience required. [8 sessions of 2 hours] Contact 

Nature in the Nude: Creative Non-Fiction Writing Group
Work on your project, develop a new project, simply read and write. We will read and discuss short nature-focused pieces by accomplished writers. We will pay attention to narrative, voice, and the art of seeing outside of our learned responses. Participants will share, read, and critique each other's work. The only requirement is an interest in the experience of nature. [8 sessions of 2 hours] Contact 

Everyday Writing Practice
The workshop focuses on the writing we do every day: emails, blog posts, social media posts, personal and business letters, small grant applications. We will focus format as well as on figuring out what you want to say, brevity, precision, and listening to your own voice. Participants will use in-meeting assignments and prompts, have opportunities to share and discuss their daily writing, and short individual consultations with the workshop leader.
