Editing services

I will edit your work whether it be a website, blog post, novel, brochure, or your customer thank you letter. Editing comes in two basic versions:  just plain and simple checking and correcting for the flow of language and to banish mistakes; and editing/coaching, helping you along to bigger and better things. In the latter version I’ll work with you to get out there what you want to say. You drive that bus and tell me what you want. Together we’ll chase the right word and get your ducks in a row.

How does it work? Send me an email telling me what you need done and I’ll let you know what it’ll take. In general, I charge by the page for straightforward jobs, and by the hour or by contract for larger-scale or more complex assignments.

Proofreading $ 3 per page (250 words). That’s me fixing your typos and verb agreements and so forth. Few words will be changed (I can’t proofread my own stuff, either). At the end, your reader will not be tripped up by mistakes and boo-boos.

Copy editing $ 4 per page. I become the grammar police, and also check flow, style, and formatting. The object is to make sure the reader is free to think about the content rather than the writing. If I have to move sentences and paragraphs around and there are many issues, I charge $5 per page.

Content editing $30 per hour. I into your head to work with you as a writer (rest easy, only for the duration of the edit). I do this by the hour on things like blog posts and articles. When we get to books or multiple edits of websites we’re going to make a contract. We should only do that if we have reason to believe we can work together so I suggest we do a smaller job together first.
